EmuMovies Project (Breathing New Life Into Classic Gaming)

EmuMovies is a project started back in 2005 to create game previews of video games to replace static screenshots on an arcade cabinet that I was building.  Since then the collection has grown to over 10,000 video game previews.  The goal for EmuMovies is to eventually create preview videos for all emulated video games.  It is a lofty goal and I am not sure if that will ever fully happen, in the meantime you will find many high quality complete preview sets for almost all emulated game systems. 

The main use for the previews is to use them with an Emulation Front-End to give you a better sense of the game experience while browsing through a game list.  With high quality video and audio instead of a static snapshot, it really makes the whole experience much more engaging and entertaining.  Many front ends also allow you to utilize game clips as a screensaver (attract-mode).  After a predetermined time of inactivity the Front End begins to randomly play video clips of your games that are available on your machine. 

That it why as often as possible I include the title sequence at the end of each video clip.  Consider it a commercial of sorts.  Speaking of commercials, one of the available sets includes over 700 classic video game commercials and related video clips.  These also work great mixed in with your game previews in the screensaver.  Even though these sets were originally intended for use with arcade cabinets and other gaming front-ends.  Many users have reported that it is just a very good way to review many games in a short amount of time.  Many just enjoy the nostalgia of being able to passively experience many different games from a wide variety of systems.

The Collections

EmuMovies Project Video Snaps and Artwork Sets are made available in the following ways:

- Direct Download - Almost all content is freely available via direct download in the collections pages.  The main exception is Video Snaps and Artwork sets over 200MB due to bandwidth. 

- FTP Community (Premium Access) - Thanks to the support of our users we have now moved to our own private server and have established an FTP community.  Due to high server and bandwidth costs there is a small yearly membership fee for an F.T.P. account to help offset the expenses.    

Access to the FTP gives each user their own F.T.P. account and direct access to 10,000+ video previews in multiple formats.  The F.T.P also gives each user a place to easily share video snaps and artwork with others.  And with a 100Mb/s backbone, each user also gets blazing fast transfer speeds.  Unlike torrents, you do not have to bother with Peer to Peer sharing and seeding.

- DVD Burning Service - EmuMovies is partnering with a new DVD burning service for those that would rather not download Video Snaps from either torrents or through the F.T.P.  For a nominal per disc charge for materials and labor you will be able to obtain any or all of the video previews from the EmuMovies Project.  This service's site is currently under construction now and will be up soon.  Stay Tuned!

- Torrents (SQ Video Snaps Only) - Most of the Video Snaps are made available via torrent files.  The upside of torrents is that the are a great and free way of obtaining the collections.  The downside to torrents is that it is very difficult to keep a torrent functioning over time.  As it is dependant on multiple users seeding the file for others for an extended period of time.  Download speeds can sometimes be very slow and we are unable to offer all video sets via torrent.  Please view the Torrent "how-to" in the guides section. 

 

NOTE: Torrents may sometimes include older versions of the video sets and are sometimes not as stable or complete as what can be found on the FTP.

Expanded Content & Focus

Recently I have expanded the focus of EmuMovies to include not only Video Snaps but to offer all additional artwork packs for use in most of the emulation Front-Ends out there.  The goal is to have all types of artwork i.e. Videos, Snaps, Titles, Boxes, Carts & Overlays all with the latest verified naming conventions and as complete as possible available to all. 

So whether you are after MAME Video Snaps, or Cart & Box Scans from your favorite classic console system or handheld, even if you just need that manual from your favorite childhood game, or you just want it all!!!
